Europe’s heating transition cannot be One-Size-Fits-All

🔥 The Joint Heating Commission (ECFD – European Confederation of Fuel Distributors, Eurofuel, FuelsEurope and UPEI – The Voice of Europe’s Independent Energy and Mobility Suppliers) is concerned that the upcoming Heating and Cooling Strategy is being integrated into the Electrification Action Plan.

⚡ Electrification is important, but decarbonising heating cannot rely on a single solution. A technology-neutral approach that includes renewable and low-carbon liquid fuels is essential to deliver a sustainable, reliable, and affordable heating transition for Europe.

👉 Renewable and low-carbon liquid fuels already deliver immediate, cost-effective CO₂ reductions for millions of households and businesses, particularly in rural areas and in existing buildings where electrification may be complex or costly.

We therefore call on Commissioners Dan Jørgensen and Wopke Hoekstra to:

✔️ Keep the Heating & Cooling Strategy and the Electrification Action Plan as distinct initiatives
✔️ Ensure a technology-neutral approach that recognises all viable solutions
✔️ Support a heating transition that is sustainable, reliable and affordable

The Joint Heating Commission stands ready to cooperate with EU institutions to deliver a balanced and inclusive heating policy for Europe, acknowledging that Europe’s heating transition cannot be One-Size-Fits-All.
