Heat Pump Day: Two routes to a heat pump

21 October is European Heat Pump Day. The day was introduced in 2024 and highlights the role of heat pumps in Europe’s energy transition. This year the focus is on jobs and European manufacturing: according to the European Heat Pump Association (EHPA), around 480,000 people in Europe are directly or indirectly employed in the heat pump sector.

The heat pump is the direct route away from fossil fuels

The EHPA points out that more heat pumps strengthen energy security, because Europe becomes less dependent on imported fossil fuels. High gas prices pull in the same direction.

But not every home is in the same place. Some are ready to switch completely to a heat pump. Others have an oil or gas boiler in good condition that makes sense to keep a little longer. That is why we celebrate the day with two solutions.

Route 1: Zealux Inverboost Pad, the heat pump that works on its own

The Zealux Inverboost Pad is an air-to-water heat pump with a slim “pad” design, made to sit close to the home without taking up space or making noise:

  • Natural refrigerant R290 and energy class A+++.
  • Two sizes: XAH07Csi9-S and XAH10Csi9-S at 9.95 kW (A7/W35), both 230 V single-phase.
  • Very low sound level, so it can be placed where other heat pumps would struggle with noise limits.
  • Can be combined with Zealux fan coils for both heating and cooling.

The Pad is for you if you want to switch completely to a heat pump and leave the oil or gas boiler behind.

Route 2: Intercal ecoWP 2Xm, a hybrid with the boiler you have

If you have an oil or gas boiler in good condition, you do not have to replace everything at once. The Intercal ecoWP 2Xm is a compact monobloc heat pump designed to hybridise an existing oil or gas boiler:

  • R290, 1.7–5 kW (4.99 kW and COP 4.97 at A7/W35).
  • Up to 65 °C flow temperature and energy class A+++ (35 °C).
  • Sealed refrigerant circuit, and no buffer tank is needed.

The heat pump covers the base load most of the year. The boiler steps in on the coldest days, when electricity prices are high, or when the heat pump is being serviced. And if the boiler runs on an Intercal burner for HVO, the backup is fossil-free too.

Which route suits you?

  • Want to get rid of oil or gas completely? Then the Zealux Inverboost Pad is the obvious choice.
  • Have a boiler in good condition and want to start now? Then the Intercal ecoWP 2Xm is a gentle first step in the green transition.
